Default Record - User, time login - time log-out

I maintain a database used by a lot of people.
I want to be able to record who's signing in and what time they log off.

I have set up a table to record this info....but I can not make it work.
    Any reference regarding the issue.

ALSO: Sometimes users sign on, but they don't exit the database, thus taking
up resources. Is there a way to kick them out after a certain time?

    Thanks in advance
    Peter

I will reply to you off list with a sample database the records the time the
user log on and off plus you can force release a user if the database is
inactive for a predetermined time say 20 mins etc.

I will look at it during the week sorry for the delay.

I used this demo for another list member who wanted to know how to "force
release" a user from the database.

I think this database needs a list of users with their own userids, and
    name.
